Consultation
Initial consultation.
A new patient, or a existing with a new concern will require a Initial Consultation with our Trichologist. A full consultation may take up to 1 hour as hair loss and scalp disease may be caused by a variety of complex issues and reasons. Often multiple factors are involved so time is needed to investigate all issues thoroughly to identify the root cause/causes.
Consultation Process
Our consultations are designed to give a thorough understanding of your hair and scalp health, helping us provide the most effective guidance and treatment. The process typically includes:
1. Case History – We’ll discuss the issues you are experiencing with your hair and scalp, including how and when they started, and how they have progressed. Different types of hair loss and scalp conditions have distinct patterns, so understanding your specific symptoms is the first step toward an accurate diagnosis.
2. General Health and Medical History – Hair health is closely linked to overall health. We’ll review any diagnosed conditions, ongoing illnesses, past or present medications, hospital treatments, and your lifestyle habits.
3. Diet and Nutrition – Nutrition plays a key role in hair and scalp health. We’ll examine your eating habits, meal timing, and any digestive issues that may affect nutrient absorption.
4. Hair Care Practices – We’ll discuss your hair care routine, including washing, styling, salon treatments, and the products you use, to identify any factors that may contribute to your condition.
5. Examination – A detailed examination of your hair and scalp is conducted, including the use of Trichoscopy, a digital magnifying device that allows us to view your hair and scalp at around 50x magnification. This helps confirm diagnosis and track treatment progress.
6. Diagnosis – In most cases, a preliminary diagnosis can be made during your consultation. Sometimes further investigation is required, which may include blood tests (arranged through your GP) or referral to a dermatologist. Written documentation is provided for any medical referrals.
7. Proposed Treatment Plan – You will receive a written assessment of your case, outlining your condition, likely causes and triggers (pending any additional investigations), and a scientifically and medically proven treatment plan tailored to your needs.
Follow Up Consultation
A follow-up consultation is recommended within 6 to 12 months of your initial visit. This allows us to evaluate your treatment plan, monitor progress, and make any necessary adjustments.
Follow-up appointments are especially useful for assessing your response to treatment. While not all improvements may be immediately visible, Trichoscopy allows us to detect changes at a microscopic level, giving a clear picture of your hair and scalp health over time.
Appointment Preparation.
Do not wash your hair on the day of your appointment (48 hours prior is ideal).
Please do not apply any dry shampoo, colour sprays or fibre camouflage products before your appointment.
Please ensure hair will be washed at least twice following a colour application,
Please bring with you a copy of any blood tests done in the last 6 months (you may request a print out from your GP).
